Dave Chappelle Responds To Being Uninvited From His Old High School’s Fundraiser

“If you think you’re mad at me — remember, I didn’t disinvite you from anything.”

Dave Chappelle has finally responded to being uninvited from a fundraiser at his old high school following the overwhelming critiques from his latest Netflix special The Closer.

While performing a 15-minute standup in Indianapolis on Friday (Nov. 12), Chappelle had a few comments he jokingly got off his chest.

“They’re canceling stuff I didn’t even want to do,” Chappelle said, IndyStar reports. “If you think you’re mad at me — remember, I didn’t disinvite you from anything.”

Last week, Duke Ellington School of the Arts in Washington, D.C., where the comedian graduated from, called off a planned fundraiser.  Deadline reports, several students said they were “uncomfortable” with supporting Chappelle and reportedly discussed staging a walkout.

“As a learning institution that champions inclusivity, diversity, equity and belonging, we care deeply about protecting the well-being and dignity of every member of our student body, faculty and community,” the school said in an official statement posted on their website.

Adding: “We also believe moving forward with the event, originally scheduled for November 23, 2021, without first addressing questions and concerns from members of the Ellington community, would be a missed opportunity for a teachable moment.”

The fundraiser was initially scheduled for Nov. 23 to unveil a new theater that would be named after the comedian.

Chappelle is the on-site catalyst to Drake and Ye squashing the beef between the two artists who have been at odds.
