Riki’s is back.

Riki's Family Restaurant in Fairport reopened on Nov. 16, 2021, after closing 20 months earlier due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The eatery now serves breakfast and lunch six days a week.

#RikisReopens

A popular Fairport restaurant reopened this week with a fresh look, 20 months after closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Riki’s Family Restaurant at 25 N. Main St. in Fariport closed temporarily in March 2020. Instead of reopening for in-person dining under the state’s COVID-related safety guidelines, the Demkos family, which owns 25 N. Main and and operates the business, decided to take time to update the restaurant. Renovations, however, took longer than expected because of supply-chain issues, pushing back the reopening until now.

#DefacedMuralRestored

A Black Lives Matter mural on Clarissa Street was defaced over the weekend with white supremacist graffiti. Twenty-four hours later, the work — painted by Roc Paint Division alumnus Etana Browen, Nzinga Muhammad and Kaori-Mei Stephens — was back to its original form. In a statement about the painting, which depicts its three Black artists, they said, “Regardless of the Black judges, mayors, teachers, and leaders, we have in this city, racism is a sickness that has not yet been healed.”

#SchoolsWithSpikes

In the last two weeks 773 students at public schools in Monroe County have tested positive for COVID-19, according to data compiled by the New York State Department of Health. No school district has been immune to the effects of the pandemic, which is surging across the region. But currently feeling the brunt are schools in Pittsford, Victor, Churchville and Brockport.

See you Thursday.
