‘Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy’ film to open Nov. 19

November 17, 2021

Starting Friday, Nov. 19, The Rehoboth Beach Film Society’s Cinema Art Theater will present “Wheel of Fortune and Fantasy,” starting Friday, Nov. 19. This moving romantic drama, in Japanese with English subtitles, follows three women who must deal with the problems of modern relationships in varying situations.

An unexpected love triangle, a failed seduction trap, and an encounter that results from a misunderstanding are told in three movements to depict three female characters and trace the trajectories between their choices and regrets. Propelled by coincidence and imagination, and guided by love’s gentle current, acclaimed director Ryūsuke Hamaguch offers an enchanting triptych that spins mundane encounters into a world of infinite possibilities.

The Cinema Art Theater will present “The Power of the Dog” and “Julia” starting Wednesday, Nov. 24.

“The Power of the Dog” is a mesmerizing western drama about a charismatic rancher who wages a war of intimidation on his brother’s new family when they come to live on an isolated farm in 1920s Montana. Adapted from Thomas Savage’s cult novel of the same name, “The Power of the Dog” is a story of domestic tyranny, thrilling defiance and masculinity gone awry.

“Julia” is a delicious documentary about America’s first female food icon. From award-winning filmmakers Julie Cohen and Betsy West, “Julia” brings legendary cookbook author and television superstar Julia Child to life using never-before-seen archival footage, personal photos, first-person narratives and mouth-watering food cinematography. It’s the empowering story of a woman who found her purpose – and her fame – at 50, and took America along on the whole delicious journey.

Admission is $8 for members and $11 for nonmembers.
