Shildt was asked about his abrupt ending in St. Louis and what his plans are next.

"I'm exploring it," Shildt says of his future. "Candidly (the firing) hit me right between the eyes and there's some pain that I gotta work through and I am doing that. But also, I really firmly believe, I'm a faith-based guy, that God didn't want me to be there anymore and he's going to put me in a place where he wants me and I trust that.

"I can tell you, I'll continue to heal. The family has been great, Michelle, my wife has been super supportative. I'll land on my feet somewhere that makes sense and better days are still ahead."

It isn't publicly known what caused Shildt to lose his job, besides from the "philosophical differences" the Cardinals front office stated when the move was made on Oct. 14.

Shildt, 53, was let go with one year remaining on a three-year extension he signed after the 2019 season, when he was named National League Manager of the Year.
