FC Barcelona unveiled the signing of Dani Alves on Wednesday in a reunion that shocked world football. Of course, club president Joan Laporta was asked if they would ever consider bringing back Lionel Messi, who left for PSG this past summer due to financial turmoil at Camp Nou.

Laporta certainly didn't rule it out and even kept the door open to reuniting with Andres Iniesta as well, who is now playing in Japan. Via Fabrizio Romano:

“I don’t rule anything out. It happened with Dani, age is a number. They’re two great players. I can’t predict what will happen tomorrow, they’re still playing & contracted to other clubs. You never know…”

To be frank, Messi has struggled since leaving Barcelona. He's dealt with several injuries while failing to score in Ligue 1 for the Parisians. His only goals have come in the Champions League, where the Argentine has netted three times.

The 34-year-old only signed a two-year deal with the French giants, however, with an option for a third year. That certainly leaves the possibility of a return to the club that he loves dearly in Barcelona. There is absolutely no question the Catalans wanted to keep the greatest player to ever put on their shirt, but it simply wasn't possible after the financial situation that Josep Bartomeu left them in.

If things continue to go south for Lionel Messi at PSG and he struggles to make an impact, it wouldn't be a surprise to see him back with the Blaugrana. One thing is for sure, he'd be welcomed with open arms.
