Brendan Rodgers and Leicester City are hoping to overcome the difficult task of facing the Premier League’s best side this season, Chelsea, after enduring a turbulent period prior to the recent international break.

There’s actually quite a lot of similarities between this fixture and Leicester’s last Premier League game that followed an international break, the impressive 4-2 win versus Manchester United. A game that Brendan Rodgers accredited the win to having additional preparation time with his coaching staff and players.

Firstly, the Foxes get to host the fixture — which is inherently an upperhand. While both the games prior to the aforementioned international breaks offer a lot of overlaps; away, versus teams that Leicester City would hope to beat, underperforming, and eventually ending both matches in score draws. Then, of course, there’s the similarity between the opposition directly after the international breaks. Chelsea and Manchester United, both teams competing in this year’s UEFA Champions League. Perhaps, this is the recipe Rodgers needs to emulate the three points he achieved against Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s side.

However, the task at hand isn’t as simple. For starters, Thomas Tuchel has managed to instill a very well-rounded philosophy at Stamford Bridge and is reaping the rewards of a back-three system that’s unlocked the full potential of his squad’s wing-backs in an attacking sense, whilst maintaining the league’s best defensive record — extremely impressive from a tactical standpoint.
