Joe Burrow is the betting favorite in an unfortunate category

There’s no debating how good Joe Burrow has been for the Cincinnati Bengals in only his second year at the helm. Even with that being the case, Burrow leads the league in interceptions with 11 through nine games. He’s thrown at least one pick in five straight games.

With Burrow’s 11 picks on the year, it’s no wonder that he’s tied for the betting favorite to end the year with the most interceptions thrown. WynnBET has his odds at +325, tied with Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson, who’s missed the past three games.

Also contending for one of the worst titles a quarterback can win is Jaguars rookie quarterback Trevor Lawrence (+425) and then a big dropoff to Bears rookie quarterback Justin Fields (+900) and Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (+1300). The fact that Burrow is tied for the best-odds to throw the most interceptions with a lousy rookie and is ahead of two other rookie quarterbacks show how the turnovers have become an issue.

Joe Burrow has thrown at least one pick in every single loss to this point.

• In Week 2 against the Bears, Burrow threw three interceptions on three straight pass attempts. The Bengals went on to lose that game 20-17.
• In Week 5 in a game vs. the Packers that came down to overtime, Burrow threw two costly interceptions.
• Week 8 saw him throw just one pick, but it came at the worst possible moment, as the Jets had all momentum from that point on. We obviously know what happened.
• The last time we saw Burrow on the field was in Week 9 against the Browns and he threw two interceptions. The end result was the Browns blowing out the Bengals.

In three of these four losses, Burrow threw multiple interceptions. This simply can’t happen if the Bengals want to make the playoffs.

With eight games remaining, there’s plenty of time for Wilson (who has nine picks through six games) to completely jump Burrow in these odds. Lawrence also has nine interceptions but those have come throughout nine games.

Joe Burrow has been everything Bengals fans could want and more but if he is serious about getting his team to the promised land, he has to take better care of the football moving forward. Otherwise, he might end up leading the league in interceptions when the season is officially in the books.
