If you’ve been playing Call of Duty: Vanguard lately, you might have met the business end of the shotgun in your multiplayer matches. A lot. Fortunately, Sledgehammer Games is stepping in to perform a “shotgun exorcism.”
It’s evident from this viral clip of someone pulverising players like their life actually was on the line in World War II that the shotgun is a… powerful weapon. From corner to corner, they help their opponents on their way to the other side, nabbing the V2 killstreak with 25 kills in only 33 seconds.

Great when you’re the one dealing out this damage, not so great if you’re fending it off. This isn’t the only issue that the community has with the game (yes, we’re all very shocked and surprised). The spawn systems in the matches have also been rubbing players up the wrong way as they respawn right in the middle of the fight and have no opportunity to orient themselves. Our Phil Boon even said that the multiplayer isn’t as satisfying as it has been in earlier games due to the overwhelming similarities between Vanguard and World War II.

At least the studio is aware of the ridiculous strength of the shotgun and will address it in an upcoming patch. Humorously, Sledgehammer Games quote-retweeted the clip with a Nerf gun gif, adding, “We’re here to perform a shotgun exorcism.” When this update will roll out, it’s not known, so it’d be best to make the most of the unrelentless gun before it is lost to time.
Interestingly enough, reports of game sales data show that Vanguard has had the weakest launch of the series since the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare was released in 2007. Of course, Vanguard is still the second most successful game launch of the year after FIFA 22, but this diminished interest in the game may be indicative of a fatigue for Call of Duty. Plus, it’s worth keeping in mind that new-gen games hover near a £70 price tag at launch and that might not be feasible with the holidays approaching.
