Dragon Ball: The Breakers is the New Game From Xenoverse Devs

Today, Bandai Namco Europe announced a new game set in the Dragon Ball universe - Dragon Ball: The Breakers. The title is set for release in 2022, and a closed beta on PC will be made available 'soon'.

IN A NUTSHELL:
  • Dragon Ball: The Breakers, an asymmetrical multiplayer game for eight players, is being developed;
  • The game is set to arrive on PC, PS4, XOne and Switch (it will also be available on PS5 and XSX|S in backwards compatibility);
  • Seven players will play as normal mortal characters, and one as a character with superpowers (Frieza, Cell, and Buu will initially be available);
  • The group of survivors will have to escape; as when playing as the raider we'll have to hunt them down;
  • The game is being developed under the supervision of Dimps Corporation, responsible for the Xenoverse series;
  • Closed beta tests of the title on PC are to take place "soon".

Dragon Ball: The Breakers - this is the title of the new game set in the Dragon Ball universe, which was announced today by the European branch of Bandai Namco. This time, we won't see epic battles of Goku and the company. The developers have decided to try a new approach and are preparing an asymmetrical multiplayer game, where seven players will play as survivors, or mere mortals, trying to escape from the temporal seam, while a raider with superpowers, controlled by the eighth player, is trying to kill them.

The last player will play as either Frieza, Cell, or Buu - at least initially; later the devs intend to add more villains. The trailer above shows the clash between Cell and a group of survivors. The android begins the duel in a tadpole-like form, quickly transforming into familiar machine of destruction, and then - after absorbing several enemies - achieving his perfect form. The trailer also shows a few ways to outmaneuver the enemy, such as turning into an element of the environment as Oolong or distracting the invader with shots from various weapons.

Using the character's abilities, we'll be able to implement a strategy that enables everyone to escape as a team or try to sneak out on their own. However, it may turn out to be not very easy, because the invader will have the ability to destroy selected parts of the map, so the space will shrink like in battle royale games. Players will also have access to unique vehicles, weapons, and items (such as a grappling hook). Regardless of whether we play as survivors or the raider, we'll be able to unlock "perks", as well as skins and other cosmetic elements.

Dragon Ball: The Breakers is being developed under the supervision of Dimps Corporation - the same team that served us two installments of Xenoverse fighting game series. The devs assure us that Dragon Ball: The Breakers will enable us to use the save files from Xenoverse 2… but for now they did not reveal how exactly it will work or what it will give us. Perhaps we'll know a little more after the closed beta tests of the game, which are to take place "soon" on PC. The title is also coming to PS4, XOne, and Switch, and, we'll also be able to play it on PS5 and XSX|S in backward compatibility.
