The last time these two teams met, the Flyers were unable to get a single goal past Jacob Markstrom. The Flames dominated them on the scoreboard as well with as they potted four goals. So Philadelphia was looking for revenge. They got that, and much more, in a 2-1 overtime victory.

Prior to the game, the Flyers honored Paul Holmgren and Rick Tocchet as both went into the franchise’s Hall of Fame. That came a day after the Alumni Game was held in their honor as well.

There were special moments on the ice as well. With the Flyers down 1-0 at the time, Kevin Hayes tried to find Joel Farabee on two separate occasions in the offensive zone. But there were other things planned as Hayes ending up finding the back of the net instead. And with a hand to the sky, he honored Jimmy.

"“Trainers got the puck for me. I’m gonna give it to Jimmy’s kid, Jimmy’s son Beau. It’ll be one I remember forever.”"

The sentiment was felt across all of Hayes’ teammates. Cam Atkinson, the one who got the puck to the trainers, said it was an emotional moment that he was glad to be a part of. He was the first one to come over to Hayes to celebrate. Ivan Provorov later said they’ve tried to support him as best as they can during this time. And Carter Hart called him an unreal friend and also agreed it was a special moment for all of them.

Speaking of Hart, and stop us if you’ve heard this before, he continued to dazzle in net for the Flyers. The Flames threw 34 shots on net, 10 of which alone came from Johnny Gaudreau. After a slow opening period, it was an entertaining game for the remaining two periods in regulation.

Philadelphia ended up outshooting the Flames 14-5 in the final frame and generated the only two shots in overtime. Those would come on Atkinson’s overtime winner, breaking an eight-game drought. Sean Couturier took the original shot as the rebound came right to Atkinson, who joked postgame that he didn’t know what Couturier was doing.

Special teams was still an issue, though, as the Flyers ended up going 0/6 on the power play, one of which being a two-man advantage. But their penalty kill kept Calgary off the board as they went 0/2.

Philadelphia remains perfect following a loss as their 6-0-0 record is the best in the NHL. They’ve outscored teams 20-7 in those games. They will need to keep the goals coming as they’ll welcome in the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday. A team with plenty of stars, the Flyers will need to be on their toes all game.
