The Chicago Blackhawks made the coaching change that everyone wanted to see. They fired Jeremy Colliton a few games after they parted ways with Stan Bowman. Stan was the only thing saving Colliton’s job but when he left, we knew that Colliton’s days were numbered. The Hawks had a terrible start to the season which led to this move.

Colliton is a nice guy and he may even be a good coach one day. Unfortunately, he wasn’t good for the current roster and state of the team. Don’t be surprised if he is a good coach in the National Hockey League one day with another team.

The Hawks named Derek King to be his immediate replacement. He is considered to be the interim coach though. Kyle Davidson, the new GM who replaced Stan Bowan (also on an interim basis), announced that King will finish out the 2021-22 season and it will be re-evaluated after the year is over. It is going to be very interesting to see how this whole thing shakes out with these guys.

Derek King has a chance to stick as the team’s head coach. If he proves himself to be a great person for this job, the Hawks very well might keep him. It probably all depends on how things go for the rest of this season. If they make things interesting from this point forward, King and Davidson may keep their jobs.

However, nothing is a lock at this point. If the team decides that King is not the guy, they are going to have an extensive search for a permanent coach. There are plenty of good options out there for this job. These are the three coaches (besides King) that would make the most sense right now:
