Freddie Freeman rumors: Could Dodgers be a dark-horse fit?

Freddie Freeman is likely heading back to the Braves, as the two sides have mutual interest at a reunion. But if that falls through, the Dodgers make a lot of sense.

The holdup on any Freeman-Braves contract appears to be a sixth year, as it’s universally believed in the industry that the former MVP will receive a contract between $27 million-$30 million.

If Atlanta simply won’t give into Freeman’s demands, perhaps the New York Yankees or Los Angeles Angels would. Both have at least kicked the tires with Freeman’s reps, though it’s unknown how in-depth those conversations went.

FanSided MLB insider Robert Murray added another team to the mix, though he did add this was more speculation than anything of substance — the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Could Dodgers be a fit for Freddie Freeman?

Freeman would certainly have to consider signing with the Dodgers, a team with a World Series pedigree. Such a move would be predicated on Max Muncy moving from first to second base, which would allow Freeman to man his usual position. Both players are talented, but Freeman is the better talent and a solid defender at the position.

The Dodgers are at risk of losing plenty of talent this offseason, including Corey Seager, Clayton Kershaw, Kenley Jansen and more. While that’s not ideal for LA, it does mean that they have plenty of talent to replace, and money to spend — not that it’s ever an issue for LA.
