The January transfer rumours continue to flow for Celtic. But the latest links appear to have raised a lot of questions for fans. It is expected to be another busy window, as Ange Postecoglou continues to rebuild the playing squad. Lots of positions need strengthening, in terms of either first-team players or cover. That rings very true for the current Celtic midfield.

It is arguable that the club never replaced Ryan Christie in the summer. And at the moment, they do not have a lot of options in attacking midfield. In fact, Tom Rogic’s injury has led to them adjusting and adapting instead of bringing in an attacking midfielder into the playing XI as a direct replacement.

To help fill that midfield gap, it appears that they have a League of Ireland player in their sights. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Celtic are set to make a move for Shamrock Rovers’ Danny Mandroiu in the January transfer window and while a transfer fee has not been agreed yet, the Hoops are confident that a deal can be reached.

Mandroiu has been very impressive in recent times and it appears that he has been on Celtic’s radar since the summer. But the big question is, can he make an impact at Parkhead if the club did indeed sign him in January?

Celtic linked with move for Shamrock Rovers’ Mandroiu

Mandroiu has very much been a man in form for quite some time now. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 15 goals and provided 5 assists in the Premier Division this season.

Those are brilliant stats for a midfielder. But even then, Celtic fans seem a bit sceptical about any potential move, especially with how Liam Scales’ move has turned out till now.

Scales was an established player for Shamrock Rovers and even had some European experience for them. As a result, there was an expectation that he could step into the Celtic team quite quickly. That has not been the case till now though and he has barely featured.
