Victims of fatal crash identified

The victims of a two-vehicle crash Monday in Howell County have been identified.
The West Plains Police Department says the victims were the drivers of the two vehicles involved in the crash. They have been identified as 52-year-old Susan Awayan of Thayer and 23-year-old Otis A. Matthews III of Jonesboro.
Monday morning just before 6, police received a report of a vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 63, north of Lanton Road.
Upon arrival, officers discovered a two-vehicle head-on crash in the southbound lanes of the highway.Officers determined Matthews was deceased at the scene. The second driver, Awayan, was transported by South Howell County Ambulance to Ozark Healthcare in West Plains where she was pronounced deceased.

The crash is being investigated by the West Plains Crash Investigators and the West Plains Police Department and were assisted by the West Plains Fire Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Howell County Coroner and the Missouri Department of Transportation. It remains under investigation.
