After an attraction begins to age, Disney may need to shut it down in order to give it a fresh coat of paint and update it mechanically. This is to ensure that the attraction is up to Disney Park standards, as well as to ensure that Guests are on a safely operated ride.

We tend to see these refurbishments happen in Disney Resorts as well, when a refresh or update is needed, as well as different theme park lands. For example, in Walt Disney World, we have recently seen both Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Contemporary Resort undergo refurbishments in order to update their space. Disney did not replace the Resort but instead made it look and feel new again.

At Disneyland Paris, we have seen this on a few attractions! We recently reported that the Orbitron would be reopening next month after a lengthy refurbishment which has left the attraction looking brand new, as well as Sleeping Beauty Castle receiving a similar treatment.

Another walk-through style attraction, Les Mystères du Nautilus, is also undergoing a refurbishment, and now that the water has been drained, it seems that the refurbishment was much more needed than some may have expected. DLP Report (@DLPReport) posted a photo of the refurbishment and pointed out that the structure is visibly in need of repairs.

Checking on The Nautilus refurbishment: looks like the metal structure needs a lot of repairs. The Attraction is expected to be closed until April 2022.

When Disney fans saw the photo, they were shocked! Nimye (@NimyeShepard) responded:

That’s a little bit painful to see it in that state. Didn’t know it was that bad 😥 But I’m glad to see that they put care in this refurb, that’s not just “paint on the floor then clean water again”. Next our beloved giant balloon? So that Discoveryland can be shining again

Lars Andersen (@Ellassie) sees it as an eyesore.

Would it hurt Them to put a tent over it or something???

As noted by Disney Fandom:

Les Mystères du Nautilus (The Mysteries of the Nautilus) is an attraction at Disneyland Paris based on the movie 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, which in turn is based on the book of the same name by Jules Verne. It opened on July 4, 1994.
It is a walkthrough attraction located in Discoveryland that lets guests explore Captain Nemo’s submarine and witness the Giant Squid attacking the Nautilus from the Salon.

The attraction is actually a reimagined version of the former 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea walk-through attraction at Disneyland.

The attraction is set to reopen in April 2022 and hopefully in a much better state than it appears today!

Recently, Disney has also announced that Toontown at Disneyland Resort would be closing for a massive refurbishment in 2022 that would be revealed in 2023. At Walt Disney World Resort, many attractions are still yet to be announced, such as TRON Lightcycle/Run and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Plus, the Walt Disney World Rail Road has been closed since 2018 with no opening date in sight!

What else do you think needs a refresher at the Disney Parks?
