Rangers forward Sammy Blais was helped off the ice in Sunday’s win over the Devils after a collision with PK Subban, and he won’t be back on the ice again this season.

According to multiple reports, Blais suffered a torn ACL after getting caught by Subban’s outstretched skate when the two chased the puck into a corner, and Subban’s skate caused Blais to fall awkwardly to the ice, and was helped off by a trainer and teammate Chris Kreider, unable to put any weight on his right leg.

Subban, already not a favorite among the Rangers after a slew foot tripped and injured Ryan Reaves back in the preseason, was booed loudly by the Madison Square Garden crowd every time he touched the puck for the rest of Sunday’s game after the trip on Blais. There has been no punishment handed down by the league, although Subban has already been fined twice this season for trips deemed “dangerous.” His latest infraction in a game against Anaheim resulted in a $15,000 fine, the most allowed under the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

There was no retaliation by the Rangers after Blais’ injury, but head coach Gerard Gallant didn’t seem happy with the play when speaking to reporters after New York’s shootout victory.

“A lot like the Reaves one that I saw,” Gallant said bluntly.

Blais, 25, sees his season end after just 14 games, logging four points on four assists in that time. He was acquired back in July in a trade with the Blues for Pavel Buchnevich.
