Will The Flash explain MIA superfriends? Will Magnum P.I. learn his lover’s secret? Do Ghosts believe in love after life? Read on for answers to those questions plus teases from other shows. (Email any brand-new Qs to InsideLine@tvline.com.)
With The Flash event, “Armageddon,” fast approaching (the five-parter premieres tonight), I was wondering if a reason will be given in the show for why Supergirl and Superman aren’t helping Barry in his time of need, stopping the threat to Earth that Despero poses? –James
Ah, ye olde Why Can’t a Super Simply Intervene? conundrum. I delivered your Q to Grant Gustin, who responded, “That’s a very good question; unfortunately, I think the realistic, boring answer is because of scheduling, life, Supergirl wrapping up….” Meaning, there will be no in-story accounting for the Kryptonian cousins’ absence. “I wish there was,” Gustin said, “but no, there’s no acknowledgement of our [hero] aliens.”
Any scoop on Succession to do with Shiv? –Jasmine
As revealed in promos, this Sunday there will be quite the clandestine gathering to do no less than choose whom the GOP will field to hopefully succeed “The Raisin” as POTUS. Shiv will find herself drawn to back one particular horse, but can she successfully argue against the deplorable who manages to earn Roman’s support?
Any scoop on La Brea? –D. Allen
Tonight’s episode is certainly one of the most interesting of the season, shedding much needed light on the origins of some fort residents. In fact, the closing moments will have you thinking, “Wait, they’re not going to suggest [spoiler]? C’mon, they’re not actually suggesting [spoiler]..? Oh wow, they are!!!”
Have we seen the last of Darcy on A Million Little Things? –Julie
“You’ll probably find this hard to believe,” James Roday Rodriguez told me (with a hint of sarcasm), “but there are many layers of melancholia coming. Just when you think something good is going to happen to anybody on the show, if you’re a betting man you can probably go put some money down that it won’t.” When I suggested that Gary has to at least consider that Darcy’s baby-to-be is his, JRR acknowledged that his character — who is an actuary, remember! — “is a numbers guy, so you would think he would have been able to figure out [that possibility]. No, we’ve got a couple surprises coming. That storyline is not done.”
Since we know that Magnum P.I.‘s Lia has a secret that hasn’t yet moved forward, when will we gain some insight as to what this secret is about? – Tony
You will learn everything in the Christmas episode airing Friday, Dec. 10.
Are either of the NCIS shows going to air Christmas episodes this year? –Maria
I see what you did there with your subtle NCIS: Hawai’i erasure. But all I have for you is coal — neither NCIS nor NCIS: LA will serve up holiday outings this season. Update: Hawai’i isn’t doing a holiday episode either.
I live in the UK, where NCIS was shown on Fox on Sky, but Disney + who owned Fox closed the channel down at the end of June. Which channel in the UK will show Season 19? –Karen
I usually don’t get involved in UK affairs (the metric system, ugh!), but there was a lot of mail on this issue. And as you may have recently learned, NCIS Season 19 will be on Disney+ in the UK, though a premiere date is TBA.
Will Peter Hermann be back on Blue Bloods this season? I really love Jack and Erin’s chemistry and it would be great to see Peter on the show again. –Bianca
Nothing is firmly on the books yet, but the hope is to have Hermann back as Jack later this season.
I noticed that while the late Detectives Morales and Cappelletti were mentioned or referenced in recent Law & Order: Organized Crime episodes, Detective Washburn hasn’t been seen or given any kind of mention. Is he still with the OCCB team, or did he leave after what happened with Angela last season? –Shon
Washburn, aka the detective whose stupidity was directly responsible for the attack on Angela Wheatley at the end of Season 1, is so done at Sgt. Bell’s unit that showrunner Ilene Chaiken says the character won’t even get the dignity of a reference in Season 2. “I know what happened to him,” she teases, “but I don’t think we even mention it.”
Is Ghosts really doing a “Will They/Won’t They” thing with Flower and the viking? –Dee
The brief attraction that we saw earlier this season between Thorfinn and Flower is “something we’re going to be playing with more — and that’s not the only dalliance that we’re contemplating and working towards,” exec producer Joe Port tells TVLine. “The Thorfinn and Flower thing is a funny opposites-attract relationship, and it’s something we want to explore.” Bonus Spoiler! One of the downstairs ghosts will be featured in a two-episode arc in the middle of the season.
I saw that NBC will be airing the second season of Transplant. Any word on Nurses‘ second season, which aired in Canada this summer? –Richard
I am hearing that while NBC will eventually air Transplant Season 2 (which hasn’t even premiered up north yet), it has no plans to do same with Nurses.
Will we ever get a flashback episode on The Blacklist to see why Dembe is not with Reddington anymore? –Peter
In a word, yes! As EP John Eisendrath told Inside Line, “There will be an episode this season in which we look back on Dembe’s journey during the two years between the end of Season 8 and the beginning of Season 9. It will not only reveal what drove a wedge between Dembe and Red, but also tell the story of how Dembe became an FBI agent.”
Any scoop on NBC’s Ordinary Joe? –Chris
Amy’s confession to Music Joe that she slept with Bobby will be “a big bump in the road” for their marriage, portrayer Natalie Martinez tells TVLine. “Is it going to make it or break it? Amy knows what she’s done, she’s ready to fight for her marriage. Now the question is, is Joe?” As for Amy’s political career, even though Bobby’s widow is taking over his congressional seat, Amy is still going to run for the position. “It’s going to get ugly,” Martinez warns. “Secrets are going to come out.”
Can you tell us anything more on Dave Annable’s Walker character? –Kelly
With the reveal that Dan has invested in the surveillance system spying on the Walker family, “I think he took a big leap into creep land,” Annable says, adding that “Dan’s got a plan, so we’ll see how much Gail, the head of the Davidsons, is involved in that. But I think Dan’s kind of like a little henchman, too. Maybe he’s getting his orders from the top.”

Kind of odd that Alex Danvers will be in at least one episode of “The Flash” and there not be a mention why of why Kara is not there helping.
That was my thought too.
Was Grant not there when Alex shows up?
The NCIS news bums me. :(
one of my favorite Christmas episodes from NCIS is from season 9, “Newborn King” … where Gibbs and Ziva have to protect a pregnant woman, and Ziva has a shootout in the garage as Gibbs delivers the baby while silent night is playing
I love that 1!
We don’t fully use the metric system in the UK Matt, we use an odd hybrid of both that makes little sense to anyone outside of the UK.
.
Volume is generally not metric (pints of beer and milk, gallons of fuel) although bottles of fizzy drinks (soda to you) are in litres. Length or distance is not metric on the roads or usually when talking about someone’s height, but is metric when measuring things for DIY, new carpets etc. Weight also not metric when talking about a person’s weight or some food items but is for others. Mince (ground beef) is usually sold by the pound but the weight marked in grams.
.
I know it makes no sense before you say it!
Still mad we gave up on cubits. Worked for Noah.
Give yourself some of those no-cash-value TV Line points for this good one!
There is no space in TVLine; -25 TVLine Power User points for DAVID.
Cruachan, every country has its quirks… about the ONLY thing we use metric for is bottles of soda (usually the 2 liter kind). The one thing about the UK “system” that always drives me nuts is when they use the term “stone” about someone’s weight. Kilos I get, can convert that to pounds, but what in the ever loving hell is a stone?
Hi Liz. A stone is 14 pounds, I think we use stones to make us sound lighter.
I feel the same about the US use of cups to measure everything, no matter what it is. Cups of liquid I get, flour I can handle but when I see “2 cups of chicken” or “A cup of grated cheese” that makes no sense to me. Watching Binging with Babish can be hard sometimes!
Don’t forget that the US and Imperial measures for volume are different. A US gallon is not the same as a Canadian, nor is the pint. You get 20 Imperial ounces in your Pint o Ale here.
In the USA, alcohol (Scotch, Vodka, Bourbon, Gin, etc) is in liters. 1.75 liters, 1 Liter, 0.75 Liter.
Star Trek has been using the metric system since TNG so it’s only a matter of time
a simple line in a single episode of the Armageddon event could of had Flash say something along the lines of, “have we gotten in touch with the Supes cousins” and a member of Team Flash say, “no, their communication links are still down” and at the end of one of the episodes have them receive a voice cameo from both of the superhero cousins
Superman can hear with his EARS all over the world; it’s a well-used power in season one of Superman and Lois. He doesn’t need communication links. Supergirl probably should be able to get along without as well.
Sad fact is, when you have very powerful characters like that you need good reason for them to be out of reach/busy, reasons that would reverberate into their stories… Without the timeline fudging and relative ease of crossovers that actual comics allow, shared universes are hard to handle whenever a story seems to demand a “all hands on deck” lineup. This is why the Marvel system of short seasons and highly individual stories works so much better; most of the time calling everyone together isn’t necessary/sensible, and it only will be when we *can* get the heroes together.
The DC CW people are really put in a bind with having to do these long seasons and ever more dramatic events. Just ignoring the other shows seems like as good a coping mechanism as anything, better than a throwaway line that doesn’t really work.
Yeah,it’s a little weird why Alex is involved without a reason why Supergirl,Superman or Martian Manhunter isn’t.They don’t really have any big forepower helping Barry in this(Black Lightning being probably the biggest).I fiugred that in itself could of bee a in story reason.Like maybe Despero did something to take the heavyweights off the board.
again could’ve done that kind of like how i think legends when they weren’t in the big crossover just had a joke
yeah sara, alex, diggle, batwoman and rene had no business being in that fight against anti monitor, nate, constantine and maybe charlie did however
Flower and Thorfinn, yay ! They are so cute
Ordinary Joe was outstanding this week. Story lines are finally starting to evolve. The new campaign battle shaping up between Amy and Bobby’s widow will be –as my Dad used to say, a “Doozy.”
It would be nice to see NCIS: Hawaii have a holiday episode that focuses on some of the unique Hawaiian take on the holidays…
I hope Magnum will, it has a much lighter island feel to it including a lot of that beautiful Hawaiian scenery. I just can’t get into NCIS Hawaii and I pretty much love anything Hawaii or island related.
sort of depressed about Washburn on OC. I like OC a lot but they really need a couple more cops on their task “force.”
Love the spoilers on Ghosts. Thorfinn has definitely quickly become a favorite character. The vibe between Thornfinn and Flower is fun to witness (like the way Flower immediately freaked out because Thorfinn freaked out in Pete’s story)and his bromance with Sasappis.Very happy to see the dynamics of the “downstairs” ghosts are being explored.
Ghosts is such a breath of fresh air this season. I’m really enjoying it. The downstairs ghosts have provided some of the best laughs so far. I’m looking forward to learning more about them. Thorfinn is my fave too!
I agree! It’s the only comedy I’ve watched and enjoyed since the 90s.
Indeed, it is good clean fun… but where’s Hetty? She’s been missing the last couple of episodes and doesn’t look like she is in the next one either..please tell me she didn’t get “sucked off”… (still can’t believe they get away with that line!)
There has already been announced at that there will be a story sometime this Season where we will see Hetty’s husband so ,safe to say, she’s still around.
When Darcy left on A Million Little Things, I went with her. This season has been such a dull mess, and she was one of the few characters I still liked. Trying to decide if I should give the show one last chance with this news.
I’m with you on this. Though 2/3 of my Facebook groups are not
I haven’t watched Ghosts yet. Is it like the Ghost Whisperer with Jennifer Love-Hewitt or kind of like Being Human where ghosts can come and go as they please? I am curious because I missed the first few eps, but dvr it now.
Nothing like Ghost Whisperer. It’s a sweet comedy and the Ghosts stay where they died.
The Ghosts are permanent residents of the house. Unless they finally transition to the hereafter.
I love me some Ghosts! But I’m still hoping to see Rose McIver stretch her acting muscles a bit more like she did on iZombie as we go forward in this new series.
Love the info you provide on certain series I’m stuck on
maybe my mind is playing tricks on me but I could have sworn wallace said recently oh yeah there is a reason I cant divulge on why the other superheroes dont join on armageddon.
but now we’re being told there is no reason really
I love the holiday NCIS episodes. They were always some of the best.
I can’t wait to see what happens next on Ghosts.
I’m bummed to not hear good news about Nurses. I enjoyed that show more than Transplant.
Pertaining to Walker; it really looked like Cordell saw the camera on the frame that he straightened up on the last episode so while I’m sure the fact that Dan is now behind the surveillance won’t be revealed to the Walker clan for a while, Cordell has got to do something about it and find the other cameras.
I can even see Cordell doing an orchestrated disinformation campaign in front of the (not so) hidden cameras in an attempt to ferret out the snoopers
He mentioned the camera to the kids either at the end of last week’s episode or in the promo for this week, so he definitely saw it.
Must be the promo. I just watched the latest episode. He found it right at the very end.
The Producers of Ordinary Joe clearly have not done their research… governors do NOT appoint replacements for congresspeople.. just Senators.. seats in congress require special elections.. That was a pretty obvious mistake.
I want Dembe back with Red. Is he going to now use his inside knowledge of Red to thwart him? He should remember that Red saved him from death and a fate worse than death as a child.
I never can figure out why in some shows Super hero’s know about each other but most times don’t. How many time has Supergirl said she is the only one… in Superman when all the Kriptonians we’re taking over people why wasnt she involved? I know it is all fake but once you crossover it is confusing. Not to mention Sups and Lois boys are teens!
