Axel Witsel continues to be linked with a move away from Borussia Dortmund, with reports claiming that he can imagine leaving the club in January.

Axel Witsel’s long-term future remains uncertain, with the midfielder’s Borussia Dortmund contract set to expire in the summer. The Belgian international has been heavily linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus in recent months. And Sky Sport claim that he can imagine leaving BVB in the winter transfer window.

The report adds that initial talks have already been held between the two parties, however it remains to be seen if Borussia Dortmund would be willing to part ways with Witsel in the middle of the season.

Even though Witsel is facing an uncertain future at Borussia Dortmund, he has still been one of the team’s most used players this season. The 32 year old has made 18 appearances for the Black and Yellows so far this season, and only four players have spent more minutes on the pitch than him.

Witsel could still leave Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer in the summer if the two parties fail to agree to a contract extension. And Sky claim that the BVB bosses are interested in signing Denis Zakaria from Borussia Mönchengladbach as a possible replacement.

Zakaria’s current contract is also set to expire at the end of the season, and he could be available on a free transfer in the summer. Interest in the Swiss international is high, with the likes of Juventus, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur also reportedly in the race for his signature.
