Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek is reportedly keen on a move to Arsenal in January after being frozen out of the first-team picture at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek has cut an isolated figure following a lack of action on the pitch since making a £35 million move from Ajax in September 2020.

The Dutchman is yet to start a Premier League game this season and only made 5 appearances across all competitions so far this campaign.

It is a dramatic fall of grace for a player tipped for big things in English football after scoring 41 goals and registering 34 assists in 175 appearances for Ajax.

Rio Ferdinand has publicly spoken out on the issue and encouraged the 24-year-old to leave Manchester in search of regular game time.

But his time on the side-lines could be coming to an end, with a host of clubs rumoured to be interested in the midfielder, including Arsenal.

The United Stand drew attention to a report from Spanish media outlet, Todofichajes, which claims that van de Beek would be "eager to complete his move to London."

It is claimed that the Gunners would look to secure the former Ajax man's services on a loan with an option-to-buy deal in January.

Former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell gave his seal of approval to any approach for van de Beek, praising his versatility at being able to play in multiple positions across midfield.

"I only want what's best for Arsenal and I believe Donny van de Beek can play, if given the opportunity," he told The Highbury Squad.

"The boy can play. He wants out. I think this young man has super ability.

"He can play anywhere around the midfield - holding, at eight, and he can play attacking. We've got another one who is versatile - a plug-and-play player for us."

For now, van de Beek will be hoping for to get out on the pitch in Manchester United's next match away at Watford on Saturday.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a win after falling nine points adrift of league leaders, Chelsea with only 11 games played.
