JACKSON, Mich. – The men's soccer head coaches in the Crossroads League recently voted on which student-athletes would make the All-Crossroads League Team. Maple Leafs senior Lucas Bontreger earned a spot on the First Team.

"We are very excited for Lucas," head coach Victor Newberg shared. "Throughout his four years, he has proven to be one of the league's best attacking players."

Bontreger earned a position on the All-Conference Second-Team last year.

The forward led the team with nine goals, five assists, 47 shots, 23 shots on goal, and 23 points earned. He bookended the season with two goals in the first match of the year at Brescia and two during the season finale at home against Huntington. He played in 17 games and started in 16 of them. Bontreger was declared the Everence Student-Athlete of the Week three times this fall season – an award that recognizes outstanding performances by Goshen College student-athletes.

Bontreger's nine goals this season ranked fourth in the Crossroads League. His 23 points were tied for second in the league behind Martim Cardoso from Grace. Lastly, his 47 shots were also tied for second among all Crossroads League players. Luke Holwerda from Taylor led the league with 48 shots. "I am glad to see Lucas recognized for his hard work and dedication to improving his craft and the team," said Newberg.

In his four years as a Maple Leaf, Bontreger played in 59 games and started in 48 of them. He scored 30 goals and racked up 12 assists.

The Crossroads League Player of the Year award went to Joao de Oliveira, a junior from Bethel. Bethel's head coach Thiago Pinto was honored with the Crossroads League Coach of the Year title.
