The New York Islanders dropped their third-straight game on Monday night, falling 4-1 to the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena in the penultimate game of their 13-game road trip.
Mathew Barzal opened the scoring for the Islanders, but the Lightning responded with four unanswered goals from Mathieu Joseph, Anthony Cirelli, Brayden Point and Steven Stamkos (PPG).
Semyon Varlamov stopped 24 of 28 in his second game of the season, while Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 of 26 in the win. With the loss, the Islanders drop to 5-5-2 to start the season.

2:53 - NYI 1, TBL 0: Mathew Barzal opens the scoring on a breakaway, faking a forehand shot before lifting a backhand over Andrei Vasilevskiy. Zach Parise sprung Barzal from center ice, putting a pass into open space for the speedy center to pick up.
3:16 - NYI 1, TBL 1: Mathieu Joseph responds quickly for the Lightning, beating Semyon Varlamov high glove side. Sebastian Aho's clearing attempt caromed off Alex Killorn before landing on Joseph's stick in the slot.
19:22 - TBL 2, NYI 1: Anthony Cirelli puts Tampa Bay ahead just as a Lightning power play expires, finding a loose rebound in front of the net and beating Varlamov glove side.

13:28 - TBL 3, NYI 1: Brayden Point picks up a loose puck after a two-on-one rush results in a goalmouth scramble and deposits it over a sprawled out Varlamov.
15:30 - TBL 4, NYI 1 PPG: Steven Stamkos ices the game with a one-timer from the left face-off dot.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
The Islanders went 0-for-3 with the man advantage, falling to 0-for-11 in their last five games.
The Lightning went 1-for-4 on the power play.

Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 25 of 26 Islanders shots.

Zdeno Chara fought Pat Maroon on the opening draw, while Brock Nelson fought Cirelli in the second period... Casey Cizikas missed the game with a non-COVID-related illness... Kieffer Bellows drew into the lineup playing his third game of the season... Noah Dobson was a healthy scratch and Sebastian Aho made his season debut in his place... Cizikas' absence caused Trotz to shake up his lines. Oliver Wahlstrom took rushes with Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck, while Bellows played with Pageau and Josh Bailey. Parise played alongside Barzal and Anders Lee... Tampa extended its point streak to eight games (6-0-2) in the win.
