Surface Neo prototypes appear in hands-on images and in new Netflix film

Microsoft may have cancelled the Surface Neo along with Windows 10X, but prototypes are still making it out into the wild. Incidentally, Intel has already discontinued Lakefield processors that underpinned the Surface Neo.

Last month, Max Weinbach shared hands-on photos with the device on Twitter, embedded below. However, the prototype was missing its displays, a pair of flat panels that look like larger versions of the original Surface Duo. Weinbach's photos seemingly confirm that the Surface Neo had approximately a 3,500 mAh capacity split across two unequally-sized batteries, though.

Incidentally, the Surface Neo has since popped up in Red Notice, a film currently available to stream on Netflix. Seemingly, the Surface Neo is not running Windows 10X. While Tom Warren speculates that the device has Android installed, the UI could have been photoshopped in post-production, instead.

Funnily enough, the device has thinner bezels in one scene than in another, suggesting that these have been edited, too. Microsoft has not officially cancelled the Surface Neo, so it remains to be seen if it plans to release an equivalent dual-screen device for Windows 11.
