The Bingham County Sheriff is under investigation by the Idaho Attorney General's Office.
The county prosecutor on Monday said the investigation was prompted after an "incident that occurred last week" involving Sheriff Craig T. Rowland while he was off duty.
"The Idaho Attorney General’s Office has also agreed to conduct the legal review at the conclusion of the investigation," the prosecutor said. Rowland has taken a leave of absence while the investigation is underway.
EastIdahoNews.com reports the alleged incident occurred after a church group was leaving Thanksgiving thank-you notes at various homes -- eventually putting a note on the sheriff's home.
EastIdahoNews.com, citing multiple sources, reports that the sheriff came out of his house with a gun, began yelling and made his way to a car with the girls and pulled a woman out of the vehicle. The sheriff told East Idaho News that he had no comment.
The county says it's unable to provide any further update.
