COVID-19 concern after US-Mexico border reopened

COVID-19 cases fluctuating - News 11's Wiley Jawhary reports

IMPERIAL, Calif. (KYMA, KECY) - The Imperial Valley has seen a slight uptick in COVID-19 cases after the US- Mexico border reopened on Monday, November 8.

The Imperial County Public Health Department is monitoring the situation, however, they say it is too soon to determine the severity of this new uptick in cases.

Public Health Director Janette Angulo says that right now they are reporting a 22.3% case rate per a hundred thousand. The testing positivity rate is at 9.4%.

Angulo says it may be too soon to determine the impact on case activity since the border reopened only a few days ago.

Angulo says although the case rate is decreasing, it is currently fluctuating up and down.

As of now, the Imperial County Public Health Department does not plan on bringing back the indoor mask mandate.
