Two Utah Jazz players are taunting one another in good fun on social media.

With the Utah Jazz trying to recover from losses in four of their past five games, it seems Donovan Mitchell is hoping to lighten the mood a bit. In quote-tweeting a funny clip via Overtime that shows a defender in Asia locking down an opposing sniper, the two-time All-Star guard decided to recount a time when he did the same to his childhood friend and current teammate, Eric Paschall:

“This what I was doing to [Eric Paschall] in the High School championship game…and he had 3 points!”

Paschall, a bruiser of a reserve forward who came to the Jazz from the Golden State Warriors by way of an offseason trade, quickly fired back with a laugh of his own at Mitchell:

“You was face guarding me on offense! You weird lol.”

Getting the story straight on the Utah Jazz teammates’ past encounters

Per a 2019 article from Connor Letourneau of the San Francisco Chronicle, New York natives Donovan Mitchell and Eric Paschall have known each other as best friends for almost 20 years now. Before attending rival prep schools as teens, they starred alongside one another regularly with Harlem’s Riverside Hawks in AAU play.

And Letourneau’s telling of their head-to-head matchups as heralded preps mostly jives with Mitchell’s memory. However, the fifth-year Jazzman and 2017 lottery pick might owe a small apology to Paschall for shorting him one point:

“They transferred to New England prep schools, with Mitchell landing at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., and Paschall going to St. Thomas More in Oakdale, Conn. Of the three times they faced each other, Mitchell won twice. In the prep-school national championship game, Mitchell face-guarded Paschall, holding him to four points to ensure a Brewster Academy victory.”
