It may not be Flashback Friday, but a returning player is back on The View. Tara Setmayer will return to the panel today as a part of the show’s rotating guest conservative hosts stepping into Meghan McCain’s empty seat on the panel. The past two weeks have brought fairly unlikable guest hosts to the panel; hopefully, Setmayer’s return to the table will allow the co-hosts to relax a bit, for a change. But who knows!

Setmayer’s trip to The View comes after a revolving series of guest hosts that have come to visit the series, largely on Monday and Tuesday. Past hosts have included Caitlyn Jenner, Condoleezza Rice, Eboni K. Williams, and even McCain’s own mother Cindy. And while The View has been hosting returning panelists for Flashback Friday as a part of their Season 25 celebrations, Setmayer marks the first host (albeit alternate) to come in for what feels like “an audition” for McCain’s seat.

Here’s everything we know about Tara Setmayer’s grand return to The View as guest host.

Who is Tara Setmayer, the new guest co-host of The View?

Tara Setmayer is the latest conservative guest host to take a seat at the panel, but she’s certainly no stranger to The View. The political commentator used to be a fill-in for the show, like current alternate Ana Navarro. But after some brutal feuding broke out in 2018 with her and McCain, Setmayer has rarely been seen on the panel. It was actually reported that McCain “blocked” Setmayer from returning, but no one on The View has officially confirmed that rumor.

As for the rest of Setmayer’s career, the commentator worked on CNN, ABC News, Good Morning AmericaReal Time with Bill Maher, and more. She was also the former GOP Communications Director on Capitol Hill, and now works with The Lincoln Project as a senior advisor. For most of her life, Setmayer identified as a Republican — but as of 2020, she now identifies as Independent.

Is Tara Setmayer the permanent replacement for Meghan McCain?

Nope. There’s no permanent replacement for McCain quite yet, as The View is taking a little time to find someone to fill her chair.

How long will Tara Setmayer be a co-host on The View?

Setmayer will be co-hosting The View for just two days this week, beginning today and continuing into tomorrow’s (Nov. 16) episode.

When will The View announce the new permanent host? The View hosting schedule:

At the moment, we have no idea when The View will announce the host that’ll snag the third slot permanently. We’ve seen folks like S.E. Cupp, Eboni K. Williams, and even Cindy McCain perform well in the position, so it could be any of them. It could even be Setmayer — although that news might not please McCain.

So far, we only know that Cameran Eubanks is on the roster sometime in the future of Season 25. We’ll also get a special guest this Friday: a former co-host will return to the show!
