Granite Peak prepares for ski season as snowfall hits central Wisconsin

RIB MOUNTAIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The snow in central Wisconsin means ski season is right around the corner. Granite Peak in Marathon County is firing up their snow guns to start building a base. 

The resort says it invested a lot of money in tower guns to help with the efficiency of the snow-making process. The ideal temperatures are 20 degrees and below for mass snow production. 

The hope is to have at least 18 inches of snow on the ground for opening day, which could be Saturday, Nov. 20. 

"We really need to get a good amount of piles built up so that our groomers can push it around, spread it out...but we'd rather have a really good quality surface for everybody to go on and open up with what we feel is the best product out there," Granite Peak’s General Manager, Greg Fisher said. 

If Saturday isn't ideal, the resort says they'll push opening day to Nov. 24.
