Neil Lennon makes massive claim about Celtic exit

It is safe to say that Neil Lennon’s time as Celtic manager did not come to the happy ending that most fans would have wanted or expected. The Hoops could not even compete with the Rangers last season and ended up losing their chance to complete a historic 10IAR. The Northern Irish manager started the season in the managerial hot seat at Parkhead but departed in the middle of the season.

It is safe to say that the season must have had a huge impact on Lennon’s reputation as a manager.

And while it is safe to say that he has lifted more silverware over the last few years than most managers in world football have in their careers, Lennon finds himself without a club since leaving the Hoops earlier this year.

Now, the former Celtic manager has decided to comment on the current situation and the circumstances surrounding his Parkhead exit. While speaking with the Sunday People [14/11 print edition, page 54] and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, Lennon said:

"“It’s frustrating. Some people probably assume that I’m not looking for a return to management because of the way it ended at Celtic. But nothing could be further from the truth.“I’m still relatively young, as hungry as ever and believe I would bring something to any club. And I’d like to think my track record compares favourably to most.“Some players just got to the end of the road. The pandemic hit us badly, because once we returned to action, we were never the same again. I still look back with immense satisfaction at what I did achieve. But one or two people have short memories.“It is a bit of a mystery. I think I’ve done a decent job wherever I’ve been.”"

Lennon has not made a return to management since leaving Celtic earlier this year

There is no denying the fact that Lennon achieved a lot as Celtic manager, including winning the Treble in the 2019/20 season.

But considering the importance that was associated with last season and 10IAR, it is very possible that his second stint as the club’s manager will always be remembered for how things ended. And it is safe to say that that was not ideal, as Celtic would finish the campaign 25 points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table and could not even put up a fight for the title.

What is done is done though and there is no point looking back. Now, Celtic have Ange Postecoglou in the managerial hot seat, who has impressed immensely since arriving in the summer. And it remains to be seen if he is the man to take the club back to the top of Scottish football.
