Bill Belichick reacts to Cam Newton's Panthers debut, says he's 'happy' for the QB

Cam Newton came back in his return to the NFL, and the Carolina Panthers, with a bang.

Just days after re-signing with Carolina, The 32-year-old helped his team defeat the Arizona Cardinals 34-10 on the road. Newton recorded two touchdowns on his first two snaps, once on a two-yard rush and the second score was a two-yard throw to Robby Anderson.

Newton looked healthy, prepared and his energy was enough to turn around a Panthers team that was quickly sinking under Sam Darnold’s control. Before re-joining his former team, Newton spent a season with the New England Patriots under Bill Belichick.

On Monday morning while joining WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show,” Belichick reacted to Newton’s debut game.

“It was great when they signed him,” Belichick said. “Sounds like he had a great day yesterday. So, always happy for Cam. Appreciate everything he did. He was a wonderful guy to coach and be around.”

Belichick was also pretty happy for his team after they blew out the Cleveland Browns, 45-7, to improve to a 6-4 record.
