New York Islanders Game 7 loss

The New York Islanders are back in action tonight as they face the Tampa Bay Lightning for the first time since being eliminated by them in Game 7 of the 2021 SemiFinals. Puck drop for the first leg of the Florida back-to-back is at 7 pm as the Islanders look to snap their two-game slide. Islanders head coach Barry Trotz looks to be making a major change ahead of tonight’s game as Zach Parise practiced with the first line on Saturday. Christian Arnold sat down for an exclusive interview with Islanders co-owner Jon Lededcky in the latest episode of Hockey Night in New York. Leo Komarov officially leaves the Islanders.

Could the winds of change be blowing on Long Island? New York Islanders head coach Barry Trotz appeared to hint at that during practice on Long Island. Trotz was rotating his lines during the team’s skate on Saturday, with Zach Parise moving to the top line with Anders Lee and Mathew Barzal and Josh Bailey moving down to the third line. The Islanders have not played the Lightning since being eliminated by them in Game 7 of the 2021 Semifinals. The Islanders have lost two straight and head coach Barry Trotz said Islanders need to be a “better version” of themselves. Matt Martin spoke about why playing well in this game is so important. On Sunday, Leo Komarov wrote a heartfelt message to the Islanders organization, his teammates, management, and the fanbase after he mutually agreed to a contract termination. Komarov was brought in soon after Lou Lamoriello signed Barry Trotz as they thought his personality was perfect to create the identity he was looking for. Contrary to popular belief, this termination was all Komarov, with Lamoriello asking him to reconsider while at the airport. (The Athletic)

The Boston Bruins defeated their long-time rival 5-2 at T.D. Garden on Sunday. Defenseman Charlie McAvoy was the hero for the Bruins not just Sunday, but this weekend. He scored twice on Sunday, with seven shots on net and three hits. This coming after a three-assist night on Saturday. (Boston Hockey Now)

The Pittsburgh Penguins were overpowered by the Washington Capitals on Sunday 6-1. The Penguins just seemed all out of sorts early, especially on the power play where they allowed a short-handed goal. Sidney Crosby returned to the lineup, but did not have a shot through two periods and was not impactful. (Pittsburgh Hockey Now)

After starting the season as strong as ever, the Florida Panthers have not been as sharp as of late. They have lost four games in a row, two ending with a point in an overtime loss and a shootout loss. But maybe this adversity they are currently facing is a good thing for this club. The Washington Capitals took it to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday, scoring six while only allowing one in the divisional matchup. Garnet Hathaway remained red-hot as he picked up a goal and an assist. The Caps’ top line dominated all over the ice, with goals, assists, and physical play. Secondary scoring played a focal point in the win as not only Hathaway scored, but Daniel Sprong, Connor Sheary. The Detroit Red Wings’ acquisition of goaltender Alex Nedeljkovich this offseason will not just pay off for the future but it is paying dividends right now. After a rough first game with his new club, he has been playing to an elite level and said that he is getting more and more comfortable as the season goes on. General manager Steve Yzerman is getting the goaltending he believed he would get when he made the deal to steal the Calder Finalist from the Carolina Hurricanes. (Detroit Hockey Now)

We got rumors coming out of Las Vegas. While the announcement that the 2022 NHL ALL Star Game will be hosted by Vegas, at T-Mobile Arena, that does not seem like the only place events will occur. The rumor is that the Las Vegas Strip will host the skill competitions, outside per ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski. How cool would that be? (Vegas Hockey Now)

The San Jose Sharks were up and running when the puck dropped for the 2021-22 NHL season. But it has not been smooth sailing late as the team seems to have faded away from their identity. They have lost their structure and will look to get back to their ways against a tough Minnesota team on Tuesday. (San Jose Hockey Now)

The Calgary Flames are finally back in the win column as they defeated the Ottawa Senators 4-0. Calgary netminder David Vladar turned aside all 27 shots he faced for his first career shutout. “I heard I’m going to get it framed,” he said, looking off camera to one of the Flames staff members. “I’m super excited about that.” (Calgary Hockey Now)

The Anaheim Ducks took it to the Vancouver Canucks, defeating them by a score of 5-1. For the second-straight game the Canucks lit the lamp first. Staying out of the box was an issue, which gave momentum to Anaheim and led to the eventual game-winning tally.
