What we have here is a developing situation.
The Athletic’s Jim Bowden looked into his crystal ball to predict the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox are on a collision course during the offseason.
First, the Yankees:
The Yankees are prioritizing one of the elite free-agent shortstops — either Corey Seager or (Carlos) Correa, with (Marcus) Semien as their third choice.
And that brings us to the Red Sox, who could be a wild card on the free-agent shortstop market.
There’s a strong possibility the Red Sox make a quiet play for either Carlos Correa or Marcus Semien. If they land Correa, I think they’ll ask Xander Bogaerts to move to second base. If they sign Semien, he would play second base.

The 27-year-old Correa is perhaps the best shortstop on the market. He’s a two-time All-Star and picked up his first Gold Glove Award this past season. Correa also hit a career-high 26 home runs in 2021, helping the Astros reach the American League Championship Series for the fifth straight year.
The 31-year-old Semien is coming off his best year ever. In 2021, Semein hit a career-high 45 home runs, earning his first All-Star bid and Silver Slugger Award. Semien also picked up his first Gold Glove Award, with most of his work coming at second base.
