Fear the Walking Dead is going strong in its seventh season. The season is using anthology-type episodes at least for the first half of this season. So far, the characters featured have been Strand, Morgan, Grace, June, John Dorie Sr., Sarah and this week Dwight and Sherry. One common thing in most of the episodes has been the mention of Padre.

This season Strand has decided to let his true colors fly and has become quite the villain. Morgan and Grace are trying to raise a baby in the post-nuclear bomb world. June and John Dorie Sr. survived the blast but have suffered emotionally and now find themselves in Strands tower. While trying to find her brother Wendell, Sarah meets someone new and discovers Wendell is at Strand’s tower. This isn’t something we’ve seen proof of; we only have Strand’s word.

In the most recent episode that aired on AMC, “Till Death,” we saw Dwight and Sherry in their new roles as the Dark Horses. They turned Strand down on his offer to team up with him, and he sent a message to them, letting them know exactly who they are messing with.

Who or what is Padre on Fear the Walking Dead?

The first mention of Padre was in the first episode of the season, “The Beacon.” We are introduced to Strand’s tower and a newcomer Will (Gus Halper), who knows Alicia. When Will stakes Strand to the bunker that Teddy locked Alicia in, the Franklin Hotel community,  they see she has left a note addressed to Will. It simply states Padre.

This made us all question who Padre is? And, since Strand killed Will, would we ever find out? He told Strand that Padre represents the possibility of something better. He also said it could get Alicia killed, but he didn’t know if it was a person or a place.

In “Six Hours,” Lea and Frank, the couple Morgan and Grace find, brought up Padre also. They shed some light on Padre with a map they were using to get there. The map has a location circled with the work Padre written across it. This location is near Victoria, Texas; according to the map, this is southwest of Houston. Frank shared that they have heard information via radio about the route to get there, but the people on the radio don’t want others to know how to get there.

Sherry and Dwight also discuss Padre with their friend the Larson’s. Sadly, the Larson’s are killed by a hitman, Eli (Alex Skuby), who Strand hired. They also discussed finding Padre with their new friend Mickey. They meet with the Stalkers who also want to find Padre, which they believe is a location.

There are many theories out there about who or what Padre is. Some light will likely be shed on this subject during the midseason finale episode titled “Padre.” The synopsis, via AMC, for this episode reads: Alicia enlists Morgan’s help to search for a new home for her people, but the search is complicated.

One theory is that Padre, which means father in Spanish, has something to do with Alicia’s father. Madison told her that he committed suicide before the outbreak, but she lied to her about other things regarding her father. This seems to be a stretch, but it could be made to work.

Another theory is the Padre has something to do with the long-reaching arm of the CRM. Since the small group was rescued by a CRM helicopter, this is something that could be accurate. Why would the helicopter take the group to Fort San Vicente? Instead of the CRM location? Perhaps Isabelle was working on her won without the CRMs knowledge when she rescued the group?

The island of Padre is on the Gulf of Mexico in Texas, and an island would be ideal in an apocalypse, but the spot marked on the map was north and inland of Padre island.

The mystery remains, but it seems we will get more information soon.
