Cristiano Ronaldo Slammed For 'Ruining' A Portugal Equaliser Vs Serbia After Blasting Ball Into Stands With Wild Injury-Time Volley

"His teammates must f*****g hate him," one fan said. Cristiano Ronaldo failed to hit the target with his volley in Portugal's 2-1 defeat.

Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo has been slammed by fans after opting for a wild injury-time volley against Serbia in Sunday’s World Cup qualifier.

Lille midfielder Renato Sanches fired Portugal into the lead in the second minute at the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon.

Fernando Santos’ men only need a draw to book their place at the 2022 World Cup, but Serbia mounted a stunning comeback against Portugal.

Dusan Tadic cancelled out Sanches’ opener in the 33rd minute before the Serbia captain set up Aleksandar Mitrovic for his side’s second in the 90th minute.

Ronaldo was picked out near the edge of the box in the 92nd minute from a Joao Cancelo cross.

Another Twitter user wrote: “I have no idea what he did that, he literally ruined the chance of equalising.”

And a third said: “This decision is probably the worst one he could’ve made. He wants to be the hero so bad.”

Serbia finished top of Group A with 20 points, with Dragan Stojkovic’s men picking up six wins out of eight in their World Cup qualifying matches.

Portugal, who finished second in Group A, will be required to compete in two rounds of play-offs in March to book their ticket to Qatar for next year’s World Cup.
