Forward Leo Komarov's contract with the New York Islanders was terminated today, with Komarov posting a statement to confirm that he has signed to play in the KHL.

Komarov is 34 years old and was in the final year of his contract, which carried a $3 million cap hit. The contract termination will provide the Islanders with more cap relief.

Komarov originally signed with the Islanders in 2018 and played a total of 164 games with the team, scoring 11 goals and 48 points. However, he suited up for just a single game with the Islanders this season.
