Browns QB Baker Mayfield leaves blowout loss to Patriots with knee injury

The Cleveland Browns ruled quarterback Baker Mayfield questionable to return from a knee injury suffered against the New England Patriots, but the team wasn't in a hurry to get the starter back on the field during a blowout.

Mayfield, 26, went down late in the third quarter with the Patriots ahead 31-7. He was replaced in the game by Case Keenum who was promptly sacked on his first two plays in the game, setting up New England with the field position to quickly extend its lead to 38-7.

Prior to the injury, Mayfield had just 73 passing yards on 21 attempts with one touchdown and one interception. Earlier in the week, Mayfield was limited in practice on Wednesday and was listed with left shoulder and foot injuries on the team's injury report. He practiced fully on Thursday and Friday, and was ruled ready for action in Week 10.

Adding a knee injury to the list of problems for Mayfield is bad news for the Browns, who look likely to fall to 5-5. In nine starts, Mayfield has nine touchdowns and four interceptions. He missed the team's Week 7 victory over the Denver Broncos and Keenum threw for 199 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions in Mayfield's absence.

The Browns will next host the Detroit Lions in Week 11.
