Ever want to see a major leaguer take care of a clown at a dunk tank? St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Adam Wainwright has got you covered.

Wainwright visited a local fair on Saturday night, stopping by the dunk tank. While the clown did his best to knock the Cardinals’ pitcher off his game, he fired a strike to send that clown for a sudden bath.

Adam Wainwright finds fun way to get ready for St. Louis Cardinals spring training

One usually thinks of players getting ready for spring training as a boring time. They get their swings in a batting cage, throw the ball around in relatively light games of catch, and just work out. None of that really seems like much fun to the fans.

More Cardinals. Platinum Glove not leaving St. Louis. light

But there is something about watching someone go for a dive in the dunk tank. They heckle, try to get the person so worked up that they miss. Fairgoers try to aim for the bulls-eye rather than just letting the ball fly, putting more pressure on themselves and making it even harder. More often than not, those attempts end in failure.

If this is a part of Wainwright’s offseason workout, it is certainly working. He was the Cardinals’ best pitcher last season, posting a 3.05 ERA and a 1.057 WHiP over his 206.1 innings, striking out 174 batters with 50 walks. Even at 39 years old, he showed that he had plenty left in the tank.

Wainwright will be back for one more go-around with the Cardinals. He is set to return for the 2022 campaign, presumably his final year before he heads off into retirement. If that is the case, clowns in dunk tanks better beware as he will have more time on his hands to send them to an impromptu bath.
