Texas is unquestionably one of the most storied programs in college football, but the Longhorns have been pretty mediocre for the better part of the last decade.

Since losing to Alabama in the 2009 national championship game, Texas has had 4 losing seasons and a lone 10-win season, going 82-66 overall in that span.

That includes aa 4-6 mark this season under 1st-year head coach Steve Sarkisian, but after a shocking 57-56 overtime loss to Kansas on Saturday night, the Longhorns have now lost 5 consecutive games for the first time since 1956.

The loss to the Jayhawks and the current losing streak has everyone wondering how have things gotten so bad in Austin, a question posed Sunday morning to ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit on Twitter.

According to Herbstreit, the key to righting the ship at Texas will be patience.

“Takes time to do it right,” tweeted Herbstreit. “Hard to be patient but this program has had challenges for years. Takes time to root it out. Have the right guy. Gonna obviously take time to tear down and build back up.”

Texas will look to end its 5-game slide on Saturday with a road game at West Virginia.
