Atlanta Hawks: The case against trading Danilo Gallinari

The Atlanta Hawks need to do something to kick-start their season. They have had one of the hardest schedules to manage but for a team looking to contend for the title this season, they need to be able to beat good teams on the road.

However, putting aside their struggles on the road for a minute, if things do not get better for the Hawks then they are going to look to the trade market to get their season back on track. With that in mind, we are looking at the pros and cons of trading certain players.

Recently we took a look at the pros of trading Danilo Gallinari as the veteran has been struggling to find his role with the team now that they have De’Andre Hunter and Cam Reddish back as well as signing Delon Wright and  Gorgui Dieng.

The thing about Gallinari is that he has shown how good he is in this league for 12 seasons now. He does have a reputation of being injury prone but when he is on the court he is usually tremendous. He has had load management for the last couple of seasons and this has helped keep him on the court.

Gallinari spaces the floor better than most big men in the game. When his shot is on there is almost no way to stop him. While defensively he is not in the upper reaches of the NBA, he is serviceable and gets in for the rebounds on the defensive end.

He is also a very good veteran presence to have around. He played incredibly well during the playoffs last season, especially in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals where he helped the Hawks to an unlikely victory before losing to the eventual champions in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Gallinari is just going through an adjustment at the moment, given time he will be back to his efficient self and will help the team. Unless the price is right, trading Gallinari could be a knee-jerk reaction for the team.
