English Dub Review: Back Arrow “But What Do I Live For?”

Overview

Shu’s big gamble comes to fruition as he returns with vital information. But before the crew can challenge this so-called “God”, Kai has a score to settle with Arrow…

Our Take

Despite past episodes building up to this moment, the resolution to Arrow being the Destroyer was kind of underwhelming, Shu was just able to rewrite his data somehow. I would’ve been ok if Arrow overcame the Destroyer himself by finding his own conviction. The god thing also got a fair amount of revelations, finally! Human versus god really become a thing on this so-called mecha anime. Okay, then, I can’t speak much with those twists, since it may sound very irritating.

I liked Shu at the beginning of the series, but as the series went on, he has become more and more of a walking Deus ex Machina. His Briheight stretches the rules of how they work, with it apparently looking exactly like his human form and getting erased by Arrow while keeping his main body unharmed.

Overall, this was a fairly decent yet slower episode. It ended on a wholesome note while giving us the proper breathing room from all the batshit crazy proceedings that were happening. In some ways, it reminded me of that particular Kill La Kill episode “Tell Me How You Feel” where all the past rival characters settled their differences in a civilized way before moving forward against a common threat. But with two episodes to go, this feels like a massive calm before the storm…
