New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge has proven to be a cornerstone piece of the franchise over the last number of seasons. With just one year of arbitration remaining before he becomes a free agent, Judge has made it very clear: He wants to stay with the Yankees for his entire career. Via Fanatics:
“No other place I'd really ever want to play, just based on how the fans have embraced me, how they brought me in and treated me as one of their own,” he added. “It's incredible.”
It would make perfect sense for the Yankees to lock him up for the long run, but GM Brian Cashman was recently asked at GM meetings this week about the idea of handing Judge an extension. Per Bleacher Report:
“We have not discussed. But, obviously, there’s a lot of time. Right now, I’ve been in human resource mode for the most part dealing with coaching interviews…and stuff like that. But all in due time we’ll clearly have to have a conversation with Aaron Judge’s agent, whether it’s on a one-year arbitration [agreement] or whether it’s a multiyear [deal]. We’ll have to just work through it all.”
Judge is coming off another impressive campaign for the Yankees, hitting .287 with 39 home runs and 98 RBI's. In the process, the former Fresno State standout won his second Silver Slugger award just a couple of days ago.
The 29-year-old is undoubtedly a massive piece of the Bronx Bombers and it's hard to imagine him anywhere else. After all, Judge came up with the Yankees and was an immediate star. Although 2019 and 20′ were down seasons for the outfielder, he bounced back with authority in '21. However, injuries have been a problem for Judge, which could be about the only reason the Yankees are reluctant to give him a big payday.
