For the modern pickup truck to have passenger space is as essential as cargo space. Pickup trucks have become more fuel-efficient, luxurious and are no longer only used for working purposes. Though trucks’ capability is a massive part of their appeal, the interior needs enough room for everyone. The Toyota Tacoma and Tundra have comfortable and spacious interiors for their size, but does the giant truck have more space?

As you can see, the Tundra provides more space for passengers on its interior. However, it doesn’t have that much more room. Headroom for both Toyota pickup trucks is nearly identical, but rear hip, leg, and shoulder room each gain a healthy margin on the smaller sibling.

The smallest Toyota pickup truck is still capable

Though the Toyota Tacoma lacks in size compared to its big brother, it’s still one of the most capable pickup trucks in its class. For instance, it has a maximum towing capacity of 6,400 pounds. Compare that with a truck like the Ford Ranger, which can only tow 3,500 pounds, and you’ll quickly see why the Tacoma is so popular.

Another small pickup truck, the Chevy Colorado, can tow only 3,000 pounds as well. However, if you add the V6 engine and Trailering package, it jumps up to 7,000 pounds. Though a difference of 600 pounds isn’t much when towing, the Tacoma is still easily at the top of the small pickup truck class. The Toyota Tacoma also comes with a gross vehicle weight rating of 5,600 pounds.

It’s easy to see why the Toyota Tacoma is such a popular truck despite its more diminutive stature. Compared to the Tundra, it is far more popular. The smallest Toyota pickup truck has been the best option in its class for quite some time. Other automakers are actively attempting to improve their offerings to better compete with the Tacoma. That’s why vehicles like the Honda Ridgeline, Ford Ranger, and Chevy Colorado are all getting significant upgrades very soon.
