Outside linebacker T.J. Watt may be on the verge of shattering one historic Pittsburgh Steelers team record.

Watt has so far kicked off the season on a dominant note. Through seven games played so far this year, Watt ranks as the team leader in multiple defensive stats, from sacks (11.5) to quarterback hits (18).

Longtime linebacker James Harrison is the record holder for the most sacks in a season in Steelers team history. He finished with an astounding 16.0 sacks over the 2008 campaign, which then helped him to win the 2008 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award.

At Watt's rate as of late, he could very well break this record in a matter of weeks, especially as he has recorded a stout 6.5 sacks over the Steelers' last three games.

In the big picture, Watt is in a race with Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett to finish the year at the top of the leaderboard in sacks. Garrett currently sits as the league leader in sacks (12.0) heading into Week 10.

More so, it may also seem that these two star pass rushers will be in a head-to-head battle down the stretch run of the season for the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. After his second place finish for this honor last season, Watt sure would like to cap off the campaign as the leader in sacks in order to bolster his resume for the award.

For now, Watt will lead the Steelers to a Week 10 home matchup with the Detroit Lions.
