In what was a hectic Thursday in the world of the NFL, Cam Newton came to terms with the Carolina Panthers on a one-year contract deal. The agreement between the two sides is for a $10 million deal, with $4.5 million of it being fully guaranteed.

Numerous current and former Panthers players have opened up on their sheer enthusiasm to see Newton return to Carolina — a move that not many of them believed would have ever come to fruition.

Washington Football Team head coach Ron Rivera is also much pleased to see Newton return to the place where he made his mark as one of the more potent quarterbacks of the 2010s. In speaking during a press conference on Friday, Rivera kept it simple with his reaction on Newton rejoining the Panthers.

“Good for him,” Rivera said. “It's an opportunity to play where he started.”

In a league filled with intriguing storylines on a week-by-week basis, there may be one brewing over Newton's pending season debut with Carolina. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule has noted that for the moment, P.J. Walker is on par to start at quarterback in Week 10 against the Arizona Cardinals, as Newton is currently “not very likely” to feature in the game.

Thus, if Newton goes on to not play against the Cardinals, the attention will then shift to the Panthers' Week 11 matchup against Rivera and the Washington Football Team.

For a player who shined during his Carolina run under Rivera in the last decade, Newton sure will look to do just that against him this time around should he start at quarterback against Washington.
