Mitski Announces New Album ‘Laurel Hell,’ Shares ‘The Only Heartbreaker’ Video

A month after releasing a teaser single, Mitski’s album rollout has kicked off in full force.

The enigmatic singer-songwriter shared a ton of new information on Tuesday (Nov. 9), starting with the announcement of her sixth studio record Laurel Hell, which is set for release Feb. 4. She also released the new single “The Only Heartbreaker” with an accompanying music video.

“I needed love songs about real relationships that are not power struggles to be won or lost,” Mitski said of the new record in a statement. “I needed songs that could help me forgive both others and myself. I make mistakes all the time. I don’t want to put on a front where I’m a role model, but I’m also not a bad person. I needed to create this space mostly for myself where I sat in that gray area.”

The new single, with soundscapes heavily inspired by ’80s synth pop, is accompanied by an intriguing music video. Mitski dons an all-red dress while she traverses different nature-based settings. As the instrumental breakdown takes place in the back half of the track, a CGI-imposed fire ignites throughout the deep forest setting surrounding her.

The track list for Laurel Hell has also been revealed alongside its cover art:

Valentine, Texas
Working for the Knife
Stay So
Everyone
Heat Lightning
The Only Heartbreaker
Love Me More
There’s Nothing Left for You
Should’ve Been Me
I Guess
That’s Our Lamp

The singer announced a 2022 tour alongside the release of last month’s “Working for the Knife” single, which will presumably support Laurel Hell as it doesn’t kick off until after the album’s early February release.
