Giants select Aidan Hutchinson, Kenyon Green in 2022 CBS Sports mock

The offensive line and the pass rush are two of the biggest needs for the New York Giants. Now and in recent years.

So with a possibility of having two picks in the top 10 of the 2022 NFL draft– the Giants are currently projected to pick 8th and 9th — New York could address both needs in the first round come April.

In the latest CBS Sports mock draft, the Giants select Michigan edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson with the eighth overall pick.

Azeez Ojulari leads all rookies with 5.5. sacks, but that is not as impressive as it seems. New York still needs to supplement its pass rush and Aidan Hutchinson is one who would fit in well on that Giants defensive line.

Then, immediately following that pick, the Giants select Texas A&M offensive lineman Kenyon Green with the ninth overall pick.

Kenyon Green is and always has been a dominant guard prospect. I think his foray to tackle early this season led some to forget that fact. The roller coaster should come back to a peak with Green moving back inside.

With Azeez Ojulari and Leonard Williams leading the Giants with 5.5 sacks each, and with edge rushers like Lorenzo and Oshane Ximines having no sacks combined, it only enforces the Giants’ need to address the pass rushing situation.

How Quincy Roche finishes the season could factor in, but the Giants still need more pass rushers on their defense.

On the other side of the ball, given how poorly the offensive line has played in 2021 — and given how Daniel Jones has had to operate with eyes in the back and side of his head — the Giants obviously need more O-Line help.

Of course, the Giants still have the second half of the season to play and it’s clearly no guarantee that they will finish the year with these two spots in the draft. But the needs will remain the same once the season concludes.
