Paris Saint-Germain Feminine midfielder Aminata Diallo has been released without charge after initially being detained following an assault by masked men on teammate Kheira Hamraoui.

Diallo was arrested by French police this week following an earlier incident in which Hamraoui was dragged from the car they were both travelling in after a team outing. Hamraoui was attacked with a metal bar and had to be treated in hospital for injuries to her hands and legs.

The incident meant that the former Barcelona midfielder was ruled out of the club’s Champions League game against Real Madrid this week.

The masked men alleged to have carried out the assault fled the scene but Diallo and one other person were arrested on suspicion of being in involved and subsequently detained. However, both have now been released from police custody without charge.

The investigation into what happened and why remains ongoing.

L’Equipe has reported that Diallo was held for 35 hours following her arrest. An official confirmed there was a lack of evidence to bring any charge against her.

Hamraoui was attacked when she was dragged from the car that Diallo had been driving. They had just dropped off another teammate when the vehicle was approached. Diallo is alleged to have been restrained by one of the men, but not attacked, while the other hit Hamraoui with the bar.

It is said that when questioned, Diallo maintained her innocence regarding the incident and was ‘very cooperative’, even refusing to be assisted by a lawyer during the process.
