Former Pa. state Sen. Scott Wagner sued by man injured in Maryland crash
A Maryland man is suing Scott Wagner, a former state senator from York County and 2018 Republican nominee for Pennsylvania governor, following a crash earlier this year when Wagner fell asleep at the wheel.
The lawsuit claims Wagner was driving negligently and recklessly when he crossed the center line of Route 33 in Talbot County, Maryland, around 3:30 p.m. May 8 and crashed head-on into a car driven by Harold Morley.
Morley's attorney said the 89-year-old suffered broken bones and a severe head injury and was in a coma for months.
Morley is suing Wagner and his business, KBS Inc., for at least $75,000, since Wagner was on company business at the time.
Wagner told Maryland State Police he fell asleep while driving to his home in St. Michaels, Maryland.
WGAL News 8's Susan Shapiro spoke to Wagner, who told her this was "an accident, pure and simple" and that lawsuits are filed all the time as the result of accidents.
Wagner broke his wrist in the crash and said he doesn't know why he fell asleep behind the wheel.
Morley's attorney told News 8 a district justice acquitted Wagner of a traffic charge when no one attended a hearing on Morley's behalf while he was still hospitalized.
