Across The Bench

#1 Taniyah Thompson returns as the leading scorer a season ago, the Hamden, Connecticut native scored 263 points on the year while averaging 12 points per game.

Kim McNeil enters her second season as the head coach of ECU. McNeil is no stranger to the Big South before transferring to Richmond she earned 1996 Big South Conference Rookie-of-the-Year honors at Radford. Before taking the job at ECU she was the head coach at Hartford.

Mid Atlantic Christian

Charles Troxell enters his ninth season as the Head Coach of the MACU Lady Mustangs for the 2020-21 season.

Last Time Out

The Panthers fell to Elon in heartbreaking fashion 66-68 in the first game of the regular season.  The Panthers and the Phoenix engaged in a tremendous battle the entire night but lost when Elon hit two free throws with three seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.  Jenson Edwards got a great look to tie the game at the buzzer, but her shot just spun out the basket in an attempt to force overtime.  For the game, Skyler Curran led the Panthers with 17 points, while Jaden Wrightsell scored 16 points for the Panthers.

You Can Call on Callie

Callie Scheier scored ten points and led the Panthers in rebounds with six on the night against Elon off the bench for HPU. Three Panthers were in double digits last time out.

Three Game Week

After hosting Elon on Tuesday, HPU plays host to ECU on Friday night then Mid Atlantic Christian on Sunday night. It will conclude a four game home stand for the Qubein Center as HPU started the season with four straight home games in its new facility. HPU will play its first road game on Saturday, November 20th.

Banbury is Back
Head coach Chelsea Banbury is entering her third season at the helm. She was named the fifth Division I head coach of High Point University's women's basketball team in June 2019. Banbury has a 38-21 record at High Point through her first two seasons.

The Champs Are Here

In 2020-21, Banbury led the Panthers to their third Big South regular-season championship and their first-ever Big South Tournament Championship after going 22-7 on the year. The Panthers entered the NCAA Tournament as a 16-seed but fell to No. 1 UConn in the first round. High Point will seek to build off a spectacular season and advance to back-to-back national tournaments.

Panthers Enter as Preseason No. 1

High Point was selected as the preseason No. 1 in the Big South while Curran and Jenson Edwards both earned Big South Preseason honors. Curran was named Big South Preseason Player of the Year after leading the team in scoring last season (17.7 points/game) while Edwards earned Big South Preseason Second Team recognition. Edwards also garnered the Becky Hammond Mid-Major Player of the Year Award after she posted the fifth-highest scoring average in the Big South with a total of 14.6 points per game.
