Panthers add G Patrick Omameh to practice squad

On Wednesday, the banged up Carolina Panthers signed guard Patrick Omameh to their practice squad. The nine-year veteran hops into organization following what was apparently a successful tryout the day before—one which also included defensive linemen John Daka and Hercules Mata’afa.

Omameh, now 31 years old, broke into the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2013. He’d go on to pick up stops with seven other teams over the following seven seasons.

The 6-foot-4, 327-pounder has played in 88 career games with 58 starts between 2014 and 2020. Most of that playing time came over his three-year stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars, where he started 25 of his 30 games played.

Carolina also tried out another trio of veterans on Wednesday. That group included offensive tackle Shon Coleman, who has not registered an NFL snap since 2017, and defensive ends Damontre Moore and John Simon.

Moore last played with the Seattle Seahawks through ten games in 2020. Simon appeared in a Week 5 tilt for the Tennessee Titans this season, in which he recorded three tackles.
