Why did the New York Jets, especially their run defense, crash so horrendously on Thursday night against the Indianapolis Colts?

The New York Jets bounced back from a horrifying blowout loss in New England with a massive home win against the (at the time) AFC leading Cincinnati Bengals.

The offense was clicking on all cylinders, led by Mike White and offensive play-caller Mike LaFleur. The defense, while not great, came up with big plays, in big situations.

The obvious question at the time was this: Could the Jets win two in a row while going into a Thursday night game against the Indianapolis Colts? In a season fans already expected a roller-coaster-type experience, what the Colts game produced was something beyond thrill-seeking.

From up to down, left to right, incredibly gratifying to annoyingly frustrating, the 2021 New York Jets did it again: The team plummeted back to the ground.

The defense was brutal, allowing touchdowns on six of the Colts’ seven drives and a total of 45 points. This should be mainly attributed to a worsening run defense, an inability to create turnovers, and miscommunication between defenders.

The offense was led by the previously mentioned White, who drove the ball well on his first drive and ultimately led the Jets on a touchdown drive in his second opportunity. Fans everywhere exploded when White found Elijah Moore on a beautifully designed passing concept to knot the score early.

But the New York Jets and their fans simply can’t have nice things, as some say. White suffered an injury that held him out the rest of the game.

Well-traveled veteran Josh Johnson took the offense over, throwing for three touchdowns and leading the offense to an end result of 30 points.

Who else stood out in a good way? Who else stood out in a bad way? Why in the world is Jeff Ulbrich’s run defense so horrid right now?

These questions and many more are answered in the newest episode of Blewett’s Blitz (over two hours of film breakdown for Jets X-Factor members below).
